Erling Haaland of Manchester City is a candidate to win the Premier League player of the year award twice in a row.

The 23-year-old Norwegian international and Phil Foden, his teammate at City, are also nominated for the prize.

The shortlist is completed by Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, Newcastle forward Alexander Isak, Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, Chelsea forward Cole Palmer, and midfielders Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice of Arsenal.

On May 18, the winner—selected by a Premier League panel and the general public—will be revealed.

Four-time manager of the year winner Pep Guardiola of City, Mikel Arteta of Arsenal, Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool, Unai Emery of Villa, and Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth have all been shortlisted once more.

After scoring 36 goals in 35 league games last year, Haaland became the first player to win both the young player and player of the season awards.

As City looks to win a record-tying fourth straight title, he has scored 25 goals this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo, a former striker for Manchester United, is the only player to have won the award in both the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons.
